Flying Lotus, California's sensational experimental and electronic music artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Tabernacle Atlanta!
Flying Lotus birth name (Steven Ellison) was born in Los Angeles in 1983 as is a rapper, record producer, film maker, DJ, and mult instrumentalist (turntables, sampler, drum machine, synthesizer, keyboards, drums, and percussion). His musical style is best described as a blend of electronic, experimental (a genre defined broadly by exploratory sensibilites radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music), psychedelia (a style of music influenced by the 1960s subculture of people who used psychedelic drugs such as LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, mescaline and DMT to experience visual and auditory hallucinations, synesthesia, and altered states of consciousness), left field hip hop (a genre – straddling the line between rap and electronica – that’s a producer's style rather than an MC's, with the emphasis placed more on the perfect beat than the perfect rhyme), and jazz. He cites Madlib, MF DOOM, J Dilla, and his aunt Alice Coltrane as his main influences. He's had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 7 extended plays, 1 compilation album, 2 mix tapes, 1 demo tape, and 7 singles. He's also done production work for Thundercat, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and many other renowned artists.
