Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds was formed in Manchester in 2011 and is the name of of former Oasis lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher’s solo project. The band also includes former Oasis session pianist Mike Rowe (keyboards), drummer Jeremy Stacey of The Lemon Trees, The Zutons bassist Russell Pritchard (bass, backing vocals, acoustic guitar), and guitarist Tim Smith (rhythm guitar, backing vocals). After leaving Oasis in August 2009, many speculated that Noel might record a solo album. He held a press conference in July 2011 to confirm that this was the case and in a subsequent interview he said that the inspiration for the band's name came from two sources. The idea to prefix the band’s name with his came when he was doing the dishes listening to the album Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. The latter part of the name is taken from the song ‘High Flying Bird’ by Jefferson Airplane. They band’s released 2 studio albums, 4 EPs, 1 box set, 10 singles, and 11 music videos. Their eponymous debut album hit #1 on the UK Albums chart and has been certified double Platinum.
