RL Grime (birth name Henry Steinway) was born in Los Angeles in 1981 and is a music producer and DJ. His musical style is best described as a blend of electro house (a form of house music characterized by a prominent bassline and/or kick drum and a tempo between 125 and 135 beats per minute), big room house (a subgenre of electro house, often incorporating drops, minimalist percussion, regular beats, sub-bass layered kicks, simple melodies, and synth driven breakdowns), drum and bass (a subgenre of electronic music often characterized by fast breakbeats - typically between 160–180 beats per minute - with heavy bass and sub bass lines, sampled sources, and synthesizers), hip hop, and trap (a subgenre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, and layered synthesizers). He’s had a stellar career with 6 extended plays, 2 studio albums, and 17 singles. He’s done production work for Tony Lanez, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, and he’s also remixed tracks by Benny Benassi, Chief Keef, Jamie Lidell, Shlohmo, and many other renowned artists.
